Who We Are

James Murray, MS, MSW is the Founder and Executive Director of Breakthrough Interventions LLC. He is a nationally recognized author and speaker. James has been creating interventions with adolescents and young adults for the last 15 years in therapeutic schools, residential treatment centers, after-care programs and individually all around the country. He has been a counselor, supervisor and director in various program capacities all the while utilizing his life experience and training to help individuals and families in crisis. James can reach people who are lost and need direction. He has brought together this extraordinary team to offer a powerful intervention service to families. James is also an avid skier, golfer, chef and sculptor.

Tanya Beecher, MSW, LICSW is a clinical social worker with over 15 years of experience with adolescents, adults and families. She has worked in multiple settings including therapeutic boarding schools, addiction treatment centers, college counseling offices, and in private practice. Over the years, she served as the clinical director and senior clinician in adolescent and adult programs. Tanya brings clarity, compassion, and a belief that people who are suffering emotionally want a way out, they just often do not know how. She is gifted at reaching through to clients deeply stuck in self-defeating patterns. Tanya thoughtfully guides and supports families through crisis with intervention and provides on-going education and support to assist change as necessary. She specializes in addictions, dual diagnosis, eating disorders and trauma. Tanya lives in Western Massachusetts where she enjoys many local outdoor pursuits from rock climbing to skiing to road biking.

Jesse Johnson, MA, has a breadth of experience working with youth, adolescents, and families in multiple contexts. As a counselor and relationship coach with a degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University (Boulder, CO), Jesse specializes in group experiential; facilitating transformation, awareness, and skill-building for men and women. In addition to his work in private practice in Portland, Oregon, Jesse also facilitates men's groups for domestic violence offenders in Beaverton, OR with Cedar Counseling Center. Jesse is also an avid trail runner and running coach, with 13 years experience working with both high school and college distance runners.

Kerry Borcherding holds a Masters in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Wilderness Therapy and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Kerry has worked with adolescents, young adults, and families for over 7 years in a variety of settings, including a wilderness therapy program, an alternative high school, a teen center, and a home based therapy program. She is now in private practice in Boulder, Colorado where she works with her clients either in her office, in the wilderness, or with her horses. As a therapist, she is appreciated for her direct nature, her intuitive connection with clients, and her authenticity. In her free time, Kerry can be found hiking in the mountains with her three dogs, skiing in the backcountry, biking, riding horses, or practicing yoga.

Richard Curtis is the utmost professional known for working powerfully with clients and families in the throws of Life itself. Within powerlessness and suffering there is a gateway to a simple greatness for each of us. Richard sees the opportunity to participate in such transformation with others as a privilege. To understand, be useful, and attune to what is needed in circumstances, Richard relies on his clinical expertise, intuition and heart. Since 2006, he has been facilitating interventions in a variety of settings. Richard is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts, a husband, and father of two.

David Shultis, MA, is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). His intervention practice centers helping clients find hope and a path to trust. He has a decade's worth of experience building meaningful relationships with those in crisis and their families. Also holding a second masters in Modern and Contemporary Poetry from the University of Bristol, England, David brings creativity and thoughtful expression into his work. Currently living in Oregon, he thrives on accessing the forest and mountains. He's an avid writer, baseball enthusiast, hiker, musician, and artist.
